The challenges facing Africa are enormous, and it is imperative that special attention be paid to him in the implementation of an integrated development plan. Active and dynamic involvement of African countries in this process is essential for these countries to make tools of Earth observation, strategic and operational tools in their development programs.
During the last two decades great progress has been made in the applications of remote sensing. No one disputes the impact of work in various fields such as disaster assessment, agriculture, mining, detection of anthropogenic and natural dynamics (pollution, drought, forest fires) and thematic mapping to different scale. Scientists agree that remote sensing can be of great help in the evaluation and monitoring of natural resources of the planet and thus for sustainable development, particularly in regard to environmental issues.
Morocco has long tradition in remote sensing activities at the continental scale. It has long nurtured a growing interest in the development of science and space technology as a preferred vehicle for the implementation of national socio-economic development. This interest is focused both on the applications and space technologies themselves.
On behalf of the African Association of Remote Sensing of the environement (AARSE) and the AARSE 2012 Organizing Committee, we are pleased to invite you to El Jadida, Morocco for AARSE 2012. This will be the 9th biannual AARSE conference and will continue the excellent tradition of gathering world-class scientists, engineers and educators engaged in the fields of remote sensing and environment. We believe that the scientific themes of this event, focusing on the characterization of dynamic Earth processes, assimilation, today's and upcoming satellite missions and integrated Earth observing systems will allow the formation of a most interesting technical program. We remind you that the participation in AARSE conference is open to all colleagues interested in or working in the fields of geo-information science, technologies and applications in Africa; abstracts received by the deadline will be considered for program placement under the standard peer review process. The AARSE_2012 Technical Program Committee will organize accepted abstracts into oral or interactive poster sessions, based upon the mode in which the material can best be presented, and the composition of high quality oral and interactive sessions. A first call for papers with more information about the conference will be issued by the end of this year.

President of Chouaib Douakkali University
President of the AARSE 2012 Conference
You are welcome to the 9th biannual AARSE conference to be held on October 29 to November 02, 2012 in the Faculty of Sciences, Chouaib Doukkali University, El Jadida, Morooco.
Information systems based on remote sensing data have become an important tool for solving various practical tasks today. The orbital Earth remote sensing satellites group includes many dozens of spacecrafts: optoelectronic and radar sensing of the Earth is carried out uninterruptedly. The Earth remote sensing industry has become one of the major components of the information-oriented society.
The biannual conference AARSE conference is an important event not merely for geoinformation sciences, but also for the whole IT community. It is an excellent opportunity for managers, experts, and scientists working in state organizations, commercial companies, research and educational institutes to gain knowledge and exchange experience.
We hope to bring together over 600 participants from various countries involved in the state, regional, municipal planning and management, remote sensing, GIS and cartography, cadastre, environmental science, urban planning. An opportunity to address the conference with a report, participate in the workshops and exhibition was given to data providers, software and hardware designers, project owners and users representing various sectors of economy, including oil and gas industry, forestry and agriculture, and many others. The local organizing committee will give all their best to organize the event, welcoming all applications for participation and providing the opportunity to present their results and products in the best conditions. We look forward to seeing you in El Jadida in October 2012.
Pr. Kamal LABBASSI
Chair of the Organizing Committee
The 9th International AARSE remote sensing conference shall be held in the Faculty of Sciences in El Jadida (FSJ_CDU), located just minutes from downtown. This is a public institution of higher education and scientific research, covering the major scientific disciplines: Physics & Chemistry, Biology & Geology, and Mathematics & Computer Science. It is on an area of 6 hectares including 3.2 hectares covered and has five auditoriums, tree with a capacity of 300 seats and two of 120 seats as well as several classrooms and meetings. It trains more than 5000 students of which 10% of African descent from 28 countries.
